KR2 Project

KR2 boat and parts

(located in Oregon)

Here's an overall shot of the project, which is in the "boat" stage, on the gear. Stub spars installed, rudder pedal assemblies fitted, control stick assembly fitted. Visible are the premolded engine cowling, premolded fuel tank with radio recess, VW engine mount, foam planks stacked at right with box of spruce on top. The project is at the perfect stage for the builder to beef up the firewall framing to accept a heavier engine, convert the retractable gear to either conventional or tailwheel gear, stretch the aft fuselage to KR-2S proportions, modify the tail surfaces, and make any other changes that would require more reworking with a project that is farther along than this one is.

Side view of the boat and engine mount.

View aft from firewall to tailpost showing stub spars, retract landing gear with downlocks, center stick.

Rudder pedals, retract gear, stick.

Woodwork and glue joints at main spar fuselage framing gussets.

Fuselage sides at retractable landing gear openings. The gray part sitting on the firewall is the premolded forward deck/instrument panel that fits on top of the premolded fuel tank.

Tail section with tailpost and tailwheel. Also visible are the canopy, top half of the engine cowling, and foam planks stacked at rear.

Tail surfaces. Since these are not yet mounted, they can be readily modified to add span to the horizontal stabilizer and balance the elevators.

Premolded fuel tank with recess for radio stack.

Wing spars. Since the spars have not yet been fitted to the airplane, the wing can be readily modified to use the AS504x-series airfoil that is optimized for the KR2.

Wing spars.

Boxes of AN hardware and various metal fittings.

Control cable.

Boxes of fittings and crate of spruce; foam planks below.
